Stanton Engineering Services (SES) was responsible for the fire alarm, mass notification, and detection, sprinkler and standpipe system design as well as for life safety egress analysis/code compliance on this $564M project. SES also provided site fire water supply and fire department access analysis. In addition SES provide computerized fire and smoke modeling for both the four story atrium and three below grade floors and assisted the HDR team with smoke control and stair pressurization designs. Furthermore, SES also developed and provided Timed Egress calculations and modeling to ensure adequate life safety for this large limited access mission support facility. The project is comprised of a mixed use, 1.085 million SF four story command and control center, significant underground facilities and satellite support facilities including utility plant, warehouse and visitor processing facilities. Data centers, totaling several hundred thousand square feet, will feature air sampling smoke detection and other essential fire safety features. Fire alarm system will interface with and control occupied area smoke removal system in coordination with the HVAC system along with a four-story atrium smoke removal system. The facility consists of three major components: 378,900 SF secure administrative spaces SCIF; 73,000 SF Global Operation Center (GOC) with a hardened enclosure and High Energy Magnetic Pulse (HEMP) shielding; two 45,000 SF hardened enclosure, secure back-up facilities to provide redundant, reliable Mission Critical Support; the remaining facility contains convertible (SCIF) administrative support spaces in addition to 400-seat auditorium, conference center, training center and cafeteria. Stanton Engineering is a subcontractor to HDR-CUH2A for this project, demonstrating the ability of our firm to integrate our fire protection engineering and life safety analysis work with the project design team, government authorities, and the end users. As a follow on, SES is providing construction period support for this project to ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations and design documents. |
